Good day,
I have been running my SSD for a couple weeks now. Zero problems so far.
I am not a computer performance nut but I thought I would try to perform a comparison of the SSD's impact to total performance.
I used a trial version of Passmark's "Performance Test 6.1 (1018) WIN32"
My computer hardware detail:
T60p 2623DDU, XP (WIN 32), T2500 @ 2.00GHz, FireGL V5200, 2046MB RAM
My computer software setting detail:
Both tests performed with the following set up: All BIOS settings for max power on AC and BATT, ATI Powerplay set for max performance on AC and BATT, Thinkpad Power Manager set for max performance on AC and BATT.
Laptop was booted up using AC power for both tests.
Hard drives used for comparison:
Hitachi "HTS722010K9SA00 7200RPM 100Gig (88.7 total / 51.1 free)
Samsung SSD "MMDOE28G5MPP-0VA" 3.0GB/sec 128Gig (114.7 total / 71.5 free)
Results
7200RPM Passmark rating = 495.6
SSD Passmark rating = 500.9
Here is a link to the detailed report:
http://n8rws.com/T60p%20SSD%20vs%207200RPM%201.gif
I am not really into the benchmarking thing so I don't really understand what each of the test results means.
My ignorant take on the matter is that the SSD only really excels in random seek and read/write. Other than that, there is not much difference.
The purchase price of the SSD was $649 on ebay less a $200 cash back... my out of pocket was $449
The reason I changed to the SSD is for reliability... I just had my third hard drive replaced due to the rough service I put the laptop through (datalogging 1/4 mile dragstrip passes in my STi)

Interesting. So basically the machine doesnt feel much or any more peppy at all to you?
I think you found just the right application for a SSD though. I expect that it will prove to be worth it.

Whoops... maybe I miss represented the performance point a bit...
I think the improvement in random seek and RW significantly improves the speed of the laptop. Access to files seems much improved and the boot up time has dramatically reduced (about one minute less in boot time from cold start).
The performance improvement alone would probably not be worth the high cost but improved performance combined with my reliability issues makes a good balance to me!
Thanks for the reply
