same power supply T60 and T42
same power supply T60 and T42
hello
I have a T42 and a T60
They use diff. power supply and connections.
Can i use one of the PS to booth laptops and is there some kind of adapter to buy, so that I can use the PS to booth?
I also need to get power from my car to this 2 laptops...
is there any simple solution for all this?

The answer to your first question is no, they are not compatible/interchangeable. The voltages are different. The answer to your second question is you'd have to find a universal DC charger for laptops with the correct tips. I do not know of any to recommend off hand. Something like this one perhaps. Check with the manufacturer or documentation for proper tips.

There you go, an all in one adapter/converter. It sounds handy to have around, I think it's on sale too. This one is 'scratch and dent', but who cares as long as it works.

... that "ThinkPad and IdeaPad 90W Slim AC/DC combo adapter" is also discussed in the thread NewEgg has lenovo Slim 90W AC/DC Combo Adapter $111 in Stock and points to the Lenovo datasheet which says it to be usable with a very wide range of ThinkPad's incl. "all ThinkPad T20, T30, T40, T60 Series". There are quite a few models for different countries - see the list at ThinkPad and IdeaPad 90W Slim AC/DC combo adapter - Service parts and if seraching on eBay after e.g. 41N8460 these are available (as new) for $75 + S/H. If byuing it here in Denmark (here) it cost DKK 777 which translate to approx. $140... oh, well...
Their user rating or here however is quite poor.

I have one of these and it has been great. I use it to power my T61p in the car about 80% of the time. As far as durability goes, it appears to be very well built, with cabling thicker than the 65W and 90W AC adapters. For the OP's purposes, it would suit him/her well since it's 16V and 20V capable w/o changing anything but the tip. I used mine to charge up an old 390 and it worked well.

Those rating samples are so tiny as to be meaningless!
I have one, and I'm using it as I type in a remote location, near Chichester Dam in the Barrington Tops, to simultaneously power my X61 and charge my Nokia 6233.
Its now been around the world with me and works very well on both AC and DC inputs.

Re: same power supply T60 and T42

I'm danish. Sorry for my sometimes bad english spelling and understanding.
Re: same power supply T60 and T42
I don't know if I'd call it a combo adapter, but this adapter (links below) does what you are looking for. Or are you looking for an AC/DC combo adapter?

Re: same power supply T60 and T42
I bought mine from the US-market only Lenovo Outlet as a scratch & dent, so it might not be representative, but the only adapters my slim power supply came with were the one to charge the present day Thinkpads (like the T60 and X201 have), and a generic USB.
One thing I'll say is that as long as you're paying for this, you might as well make sure to get the newer model that has the DC charge in-line with the power cable (so you don't need the brick to charge in your car).

Re: same power supply T60 and T42
In the past I've gotten a couple of car chargers that were supposed to work with both the T60 and the T40 (they supplied a mechanical adapter to go from the T40 plug to the T60 plug) but the T60 setup didn't work.
Couple years ago I got the Lenovo combo adapter (previous generation) which works with all Thinkpads and either automobile 12vdc or wall socket 110vac (haven't tried 220vac) and it works great. It's also light and thin. I paid $60 at that time on eBay.
I'd say go with the Lenova combo charger which is a good deal at $60. A bonus is that it's lighter than most bricks (I suppose a higher frequency in the linear power supply).

Re: same power supply T60 and T42
I think I will find a Lenovo model... because I think it's to unsafe to use all this second hand models...
I can see Targus had some errors with other chargers.
Anyone knows the model number of the new model, that marlinspike mentioned?
