My T60 will frequently freeze when resuming from standby, no bluescreen, no error message in the system log, just a solid freeze, with the last contents of the screen stuck there. It does not respond to network activity in this state, and the only way to solve is to 4-second hold the power button and try again. I have had a very hard time locking down a pattern, and it seems to take slightly varying amount of time to freeze, sometimes I can get past the login screen, other times not. I have expereinced this behavior with all 3 versions of graphics drivers I have, 2 versions of the synaptics driver (newest forgets settings, second newest blue screens, oldest seems to work ok), and 2 different windows installs. It seems to be vaguely correlated with wireless, as long as the hardware switch is on, even if Fn+F5 has disabled the radio. I almost want to say it has something to with temperature, but rebooting works fine, so I assume that is a coincidence. I am currently running the latest intel wireless drivers. Any ideas? Also, does anyone have a link on how to completely remove the intel pro wireless driver? I have read the installer does not clean up as well as it should.

What happens if you use the Lenovo wireless drivers on a new factory install? If you haven't tried this, you should. I have noticed that while it is tempting to install the latest Intel drivers, and they may actually work better, the result is that something else gets screwed up, like sleep or hibernation/power management.

I am using lenovo provided intel drivers, sorry for the lack of clarity, and I have a non-factory HD, so the restore partition is long gone.

EDIT: on the other hand, I just resumed it as a test and nothing really worked, fingerprint login was not even an option (and didn't function when i tried), after logging in manually, it sat at my wallpaper for a while, I could get cursor movement, no CtrlAltDel, could not go back into stndby, but Fn+F3 (Which I have set to turn off the monitor) worked, Fn+F5 told me my wireless switch was off, but other than that nothing, OSD for brightness did not work, etc. Then, everything came back, I got the task manager, etc. Not sure what happened. I am thinking I may reseat my hard drive, though I don't really see how it can work at all with that sort of issue....

Try ensuring you have recent BIOS version, entering its configuration and disabling legacy (parallel, serial) ports on docking station.

I do indeed have a recent bios, but not a docking station (this machine has never been in one, unless lenovo tests that in the factory) - I have disabled the option to be sure, but is this a known problem?

It is, but only if the machine is docked at the time.

Well, disabling legacy devices failed to fix the problem. I will be rolling back with wireless drivers tonight to see if that results in a resolution. Most frustrating that they have stopped support for XP. I have tried vista, but it uses much more power than XP (launching word = 25W compared to XPs 16W).

Well, some combination of rolling back the wireless drivers, disabling "deep smart power down" on my ethernet adapter, and uninstalling my antivirus seems to have fixed the screen freeze issue, but I now crash with a mostly black screen, with some lighter areas. It almost looks like fairly low level video issue.

So, I am now thinking I am just goign to reformat it and start over. I do not have the factory restore and honestly don't want it anyway - too much bloat I would have to uninstall. A couple of questions regarding that:

1) What is the latest "good" bios? I have been told as early as 1.04 has been used to fix the black screen issues. I am currently running 2.23.

2) Are there any hotfixes for XP SP2 that are known to be essential? Conversely, any known to break things? Perhaps I should consider SP3 despite the very mixed results people have had from it.

3) Are there any versions of drivers known to not work? I for example have some issues with the latest ultranav driver, which cannot properly save sensitivity settings for some reason.

Not sure if it can make any difference, but you could try installing latest generic ATI drivers using MobilityModder (to allow installation on Lenovo machine). That is, if you have ATI graphics.

The only problem arising from using generic drivers known to me is related to docking, so probably does not concern you.
