Overclocking the Radeon X1400

Just as an FYI for people interested in tweaking this processor. I am currently getting 1123 on 3Dmark06. Compared to 919 when stock clocks are used. I have gotten as high as 1150, but had to run much higher clock settings.

I used Powerstrip 3.63 Build 540.

Engine - 550MHz
Memory - 400MHz

Stock was 445, 346 respectively. I was successful in going to higher clock settings, but but the benchmark scores were marginally higher, sometimes even lower.

If anyone has squeezed more of of this GPU, let me know.

I am interested in the temperature of the GPU when you squeeze it.

I hope you know that OC will reduce your notebook (motherboard) lifetime...

May reduce, not will reduce. Especially if you do not overvolt, and the chip does not run hotter, there is very little reason to think that it will somehow affect the lifetime. But then again, everyone who overclocks fundamentally accepts the responsibility for failure.

Except for better benchmark results, what real-life performance improvements will I see with over clocking?

As for temps, pls recommend a tool to get them. Powerstrip and ATI Tool fail to report any for this card. (Powerstrip has some unidentified temps at 60C, maybe they are the GPU?). Anecdotally I can say the laptop does not get hot at all. The bottom gets hot, like almost discomfortable, when I run both CPUs hardcore (no overclock), but in WOW I rarely feel even warmth on my legs.

As to why, I get almost 20% more FFS out of WOW when it is overclocked...
