T60 fingerprint reader: creeping loss of sensitivity

I've noticed that over the past few months my fingerprint reader has become less and less reliable. I now must swipe three times, and will still get the "X", and will then need to enter the password manually. I use the fingerprint reader for pre-boot when the machine is first turned on.

I have gone thru the fingerprint software thingy three or four times, but there's no improvement.

Is this loss of reliability caused by component aging and subsequent drift? Perhaps capacitors drying out or something?

Any fix, other than replacement of the fingerprint reader?

My other T60 fingerprint reader still works great.

Thanks!

I think you should give it the finger :). Sorry couldn't resist. What I would do is swap palm rests to see if the problem moves with the reader.

I have similar problems with my T61. All in all I'm fairly unsatisfied with the reader. That said, sometimes I find lightly licking my finger helps. I've had to 'refresh' my fingerprint every 3-5 months.

I had similar symptoms and eventually my fingerprint reader just stopped working. Now the login screen simply states "Please connect your fingerprint reader." I'm gona call Lenovo coz its still under warranty, but pretty annoying.
