T60p flexview/S-IPS 1600x1200 - lines . Spare S-IPS part?

Hi,
I have a T60p (2008-93G) with a loved S-IPS/flexview 1600x1200 screen.

Gradually I've been seeing more and more horizontal lines (was one - can now be 3,4) across the lower 2 inches of the screen which come and go as the hinge is moved. It's been suggested to me (without inspection) that the screen would likely need to be replaced.

Are S-IPS spares still available? On the lenovo site I believe the spare part is 13N7076 which is listed as
LCD panel, 15in UXGA FFS, BOE-Hydis

Is this still an S-IPS panel or are they replacing with the newer panels due to supply issues?

I tried a T61 for a while & definately noticed the (IMO) inferior screen (shimmery, poorer viewing angles)
I also have a 20" S-IPS screen at home ;-)

Or perhaps I'm worrying unnecessarily -- maybe the new screens are better (actually my Son's recently got a dell studio 17 with an LED screen. Don't like the gloss, but boy is it bright)

Just trying to balance sending in for service vs living with the lines..........

Hi,
I believe they have more than enough flexview panels in stock to service in-warranty laptops - statistically measured from how many machines need a new LCD while under warranty vs. how many are sold.
The horizontal lines sounds like the bonding material from the lcd drivers has become defective, i.e. loose. Hard to fix - a replace is much cheaper and easier for Lenovo.

FFS or AFFS is the Boe-Hydis term of S-IPS, actually improving on transmittance and viewing angles, so this is the original Flexview panel. 13N7194 also exists in few quantities, but there is little visual difference between these IMO - maybe this is the reason Lenovo decided not to carry these much at all.

Just to be sure - is your T60p still under warranty?

The BOE-Hydis T60p UXGA FlexView/IPS panel with FRU = 13N7076 is frequently sold on eBay (in the USA); most recently I have even seen it go for as low as $110 incl. shipping - and that even goes for a new panel! Hang around...!

PS: Please update your profile with your geographical location - it is not of much use if I reply with some info about places to buy stuff in the USA, if you are e.g. living in Germany! Your T60 MT (model/type) ending in "G" sort of indicate this...
