Weak sound on T60: any kind of fix?

The audio level on my T60 is really weak. Does anyone have a fix , aside fom adding external speakers? I hate to encumber the thing with speakers.

Would a T61 have higher sound? I'm thinking of one anyway.

I know there must be some software way to jack up the sound a little because when I watch HDTV on SnapStreams Beyond TV it's noticeably stronger than any other TV viewer.

If I could get a TV viewer running on Linux I could probably jack it up with ALSA, but so far no luck getting a viewer going on the linux partition.

Which T60 do you have - standard screen or wide screen?

I doubt that the sound on a T61 would be any better. There is a thread here with some people complaining about the T61 being so silent. And unless you have a low-end T60 and want to get a high-end T61, I would not consider this an upgrade at all.

I have a T61 (7661-ZND) with Kubuntu 8.10/Vista Ultimate dual boot and in both OS the sound is not what I would expect it to be - with my headphones on (one of those big ones that enclose whole ears) and all sliders to the max, I still can't really listen to music if e.g. two people are talking in normal voice next to me. I don't know where the problem because I just can't believe the onboard sound card can be THAT bad...

My T60 is weak on sound as well. I have Slingplayer loaded and it's very difficult to hear with the volume cranked all the way up. I've looked around through the years and I'm not aware of any s/w fix for the issue, sorry to say.

My T60 is a Widescreen, 15.4, Type 6371-74U, prod id 637174U.

I'm looking for a good used thinkpad to replace my old T40 so I can ratchet up my primary/secondary systems. I WAS thinking T61, but maybe I should think of a T300 or something. I just thought the T61 might have some improvements, but maybe not.
