External Monitor Resolution Question on T61p

If I use a 15.4" WS T61p that has the WUXGA 1900X1200 screen, will my external 22" WS monitor (with a native resolution of only 1680x1050 connected via my Advanced Mini-dock's DVI connector) look as sharp as my current T61 that has the WSXGA+ 1680x1050 screen that exactly matches the native resolution of my 22" WS external monitor?

I assume that I must first notch down the 1900x1200 resolution of the T61p's FX 570M GPU via WinXP's Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced to match my 22" monitor's native resolution of 1680x1050 when docked and using the external 22" WS monitor (the T61p LCD panel lid would remain closed in this case).

Yes, the picture will look (exactly) the same. I'd use Presentation Director to set up a profile for this and activate it whenever your system is docked. If you use the Display Properties control panel, it should pick up the native resolution of your external monitor automatically. There shouldn't be any need to reduce the resolution of the built-in LCD.
But why don't you use a dual monitor set up? Seems like a waste of screen real estate not to use the built-in LCD?

BTW, can a T61p or T61 with only a WSXGA+ 1680x1050 LCD panel be used with an external 24" monitor that has a higher 1900x1200 native resolution via the DVI connector in the Advanced Mini-Dock without loss of clarity (the lid on the ThinkPad would remain closed)? Will the T61p's FX 370M 256Mb card support that? How about the T61's 140M 128Mb card?

Shouldn't be a problem at all. I don't have a T61(p) with WSXGA+ screen but a T60p with SXGA+ that drives an external WUXGA screen with no problem at all. Any modern GPU can drive WUXGA resolution (and many times also higher resolutions) without problems (my six year old A31 could do it, too).
