2007-FVG: Is this a Flexview model ?

#1 Post by Jules Tohpipi » Mon Jan 12, 2009 5:49 pm

Hi,

I read through the sticky at the top, but I'm still a bit confused.

Do all 15 inch T60 ThinkPads (4:3) have the Flexview screen, or was it an option ?

A used model I'm considering has the part code 2007-FVG. Does the FV indicate for sure that it has a Flexview screen ?

What's a ball-park cost for retro-fitting myself an IPS screen to a 15" T60 ?

Many thanks in advance.
Jules

It is a flexview display but not because of the FV in 2007-FVG. That is coincidental.

To clear it once again:

All 15" 4:3 T60 and T60p units left the factory with IPS FlexView LCDs as long as the resolution is SXGA+ (1400x1050) or UXGA (1600x1200). Machines with 15" XGA (1024x768) resolution use standard TN panels, but can be retrofitted with IPS LCDs.

Jules:

The 2007-FVG is an European version of the 2007-FVU which is the USA-version the the same ThinkPad. You may find a Lenovo specification sheet for the 2007-FVG at here. Brief specs can be found at ThinkPad T60 2007-FVG. You may find the detailed specifications for T60's at ltwbook (official title being: "Personal Systems Reference Lenovo ThinkPad Notebooks 2005 to present - withdrawn - November 2008 - Version 348"). As already said, the 2007-FVU indeed is a FlexView/IPS version.

The ball-park cost for retro-fitting an IPS screen to a 15" T60 yourself? About $125 with shipping from USA (where these LCD's are by far most easy/cheapest to find) to Europe. Recently I sold brand-new such 15" SXGA+ FlexView/IPS LCD panels here on the forum for only $90 (+ shipping); see the thread FS: New 15" SXGA+ T60 FlexView/IPS LCD (FRU 42T0325). Alternative SXGA+ FlexView/IPS LCD's for 15.0" 4:3 T60's can be found in the System service parts - ThinkPad T60, T60p (many models, incl. the 2007) - see 15 inch LCD service parts - ThinkPad T60, item 8, where you have these additional options: LG-Phillips with FRU=13N7078 and BOE Hydis with FRU=13N7196. Try search http://www.eaby.com for an estimate of the cost for these panels (and the 42T0324 and 42T0325). As mentioned, you should be able to find brand-new panels for less than $100, if hanging around for a while. Note that you will also need an inverter (42T0079) for a SXGA+ panel; the XGA inverter (42T0077) is for XGA panels.

By the way, if you would happen to know where more these 15" SXGA+ T60's can be found in UK (or in the USA), I would be very interested in information about this... reason being that a friend of mine in the USA is looking for one! If you have any information which you want to share, feel free to send me a PM (Private Message) via this forum, or an e-mail via johan_granholm [at] yahoo [dot] dk Thanks very much in advance! :-)

Thanks everyone for the replies. It's really helpful and informative. I'm absorbing the info and trying to make my mind up what to do.

I saw Techstore were advertising some too, and will come back and post if I see any others.

At the risk of getting a slap by asking again just to make sure :) , would it have been the case that all *European* 15" T60 (SXGA+ and UXGA) have Flexview - just like the American versions ?

Yes. As far as I know. All SXGA+ 15 inch 4:3's in T60 (and maybe the rest too?) are IPS.

Target market makes no difference in this case. As long as the LCD is 15" SXGA+ or UXGA and the machine is T60/p, it will be an IPS FlexView.
