T61p Really Slow Game Play, counter strike.
i have a t61p T7700, 4GB, 320GB, 15.4 WXGA, and normally when playing counterstrike i would run at at 1280X800 with everything turned up and never drop below 200FPS well i updated my laptop with the newest drivers from lenovo and after that running at everything on low with 800X600 res i get only about 25FPS,
bad drivers maybe? ive reinstalled my OS btw its xp pro, and that didn't help. the only thing i can think of is using hacked driver.
anyone else have this problem?
anyways any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Haven't played that game (is it a good one?) but I did just update the graphic driver on T61p to Lenovo's latest version and I just checked and I notice an improvement in game play and video rendering (at the same settings) in COD4. So maybe something else is messed up? I would try reinstalling the driver. Also I do a little graphics acceleration with Riva Tuner just for when I'm playing games. Really helps me get more out of the video card and if you don't overdo it, no problems with overheating or anything. Riva Tuner allows you to set it so the overclocking only kicks in when you are doing 3d video intensive stuff and the rest of the time, the normal settings are used. Best thing softwarewise I've found for improving gaming on my laptop, along with using good drivers.

ive been overclocking my video card for more then a year now. i use ati tool and run at 650/1000 but even overclocked i only get about a 5 to 10% increase in frame rate.
when if first happened i reinstalled the hole OS and updated everything again. but still same problem.
i'll give it another go.
thanks for the help.

Re: T61p Really Slow Game Play, counter strike.
so i tried reinstalling the video driver from lenovo. and it did not make any changes. then i installed a driver from laptopvideo2go dot com and it made a few improvments such as going from 22 fps to 200 fps. it dose not matter whats happening in the game just jumps back and forth.
i did however installed windows 7 beta on here and i can run that with CS SOURCE at 1920X1200 with everything on and pushed to max i never drop below 200FPS. but still no luck with XP. i'm ganna do another format and reinstall tonight and see if that helps. i'll post the results.
thanks again

I forgot to mention that I'm using Vista x64 so the driver is a little different. Maybe there is something wrong with the XP version of that driver you were using.

Can you share your recommended timing settings with Riva Tuner for a T61p with the FX 570M 256mb GPU?pae77 wrote:Haven't played that game (is it a good one?) but I did just update the graphic driver on T61p to Lenovo's latest version and I just checked and I notice an improvement in game play and video rendering (at the same settings) in COD4. Also, what are the default Lenovo video timing settings for the FX 570M 256mb card? Thanks

Are you sure that the effects of overclocking your GPU aren't beginning to show up in the form of reduced performance?
If I had a T61p I know I wouldn't be overclocking things passed what the engineers designed them to run at.
Failing that, are there any patches for the game that might affect video settings? I've never played that game, but it sounds like an older title and if you are indeed getting 200FPS from it then obviously you shouldn't be having a problem.
If you haven't already done it, I would suggest downloading and installing PC Doctor for windows and running your machine through its paces. A good once over with memtest might prove to be useful.

Re: T61p Really Slow Game Play, counter strike.
ok. so what ive figured out is that i can't use XP anymore. when i updated my system i got a bois update and i think thats what did it.
my thinkpad came with vista ultimate so i tried that. in fact i did a fresh install with XP pro SP3 vista ultimate SP1 and windows 7 beta build 7000 all 32 bit.
using stock drivers on all 3 OS's other then 7 witch i used the vista driver.
i ran counter strike source as well as battlefield 2
counter strike i ran at 1920X1200 res, with all settings on high other then anialising, and battlefield 2 i ran at 1440X1050 with all settings maxed out.
XP: CS was 9 to 22 Frames per Second, battlefield 30-40 FPS
Vista:CS was 90 to 160 FPS and battlefield was 60-70 FPS
win7: CS was 200 to 300 FPS and battlefield was 90-100FPS.
windows 7 even running grand theft auto 4 i got about 20 FPS higher then i did in xp, but every time ive ever played games in the past ive gotten much better frame rate in XP then vista but now its about the same in vista and XP is teriable. i don't know what to do with this. i love using XP
and all my problems started after updating my laptop.
anyways dose any one have any ideas?
please let me know..
THANKS AGAIN!
p.s. also counter strike is mainly the only game i play, if you haven't noticed.
