Is the restore button next to the 'any' key?

#1 Post by Skysurfer » Tue Jan 27, 2009 5:31 pm

My girlfriend has a T60 that was given to her by an old employer who pulled the plug on most the of the Thinkvantage utilities. I would like to reformat the harddrive and restore the machine back to factory settings. How can I tell if the IBM restore partition still exists and, if not, how can I still restore the machine?

Thanks,

Lawrence

At boot time (just after pressing the power button), press the blue "Thinkvantage" button. If the recovery partition is still there, it will boot into the recovery pre-desktop (or whatever it is called). From here you can do a system restore back to factory settings. If the recovery partition is gone, you need recovery CDs/DVDs for your system. They can be had from Lenovo (pricey), or ebay, or place a WTB thread here in the marketplace.

Excellent. Thanks.

Um, what does "WTB" stand for?

If you don't have the recovery partition, you can install retail version of Windows and add the ThinkVantage stuff yourself. You will just have to connect the fresh system to the Internet and then download and install the System Update. This tool will then search for all ThinkVantage components that apply to your ThinkPad, let you choose which you want to have and then it will download and install them. Later on it also takes care of keeping everything up to date.
