T60 Battery and HD problem?

2nd attempt to post this

A few days ago I received a used T60 in what looks like very good condition. Plugged it into the 120 and proceeded to make some changes, replaced the HD with a 320G, remove what I’ll call junk and updated Windows that took a couple hours without SP3. I heard that if it works = fix it. all worked surprisingly well with the battery health indicating 100%. I unplugged it to move to another room to test the wireless for less than ½ hour, plugged it back in with a charge of around 90% and proceeded to DL some more wanted apps with the battery indicator going back to 100%. Shortly afterwards the built in battery indicator started flashing yellow with a message saying the battery is defective?? At 100%?? Nothing I did changed the indicator so stopped using it to get away from it. This AM powered up and got an error message ”cannot boot from any device” ?? WTF. Put the original HD back in and got the same message. I then put a 8” dowel on the drives and heard a short motor wind up< 2 seconds, and what sounded like a short chattering then no sound at all. Any ideas of what to do besides hoping the warranty is still in effect. Please help as the wife was going to take it on a trip for a week come Sunday. I'm hoping these units have a strong MB as I fear the worst. TIA Vic.

Installing a new Bios changed nothing. :(

Even put the drive in a USB enclosure and it's readable by my desktop.

How did you install the new BIOS if you can't boot from any device?

Downloaded a ISO bios and created a bootable CD from that image. It's on the lower part of the page the Bios is listed. My new bios version is now 2.23, was 1.11.

OK, so you can boot. I would download some Linux life CD and boot from that and check out the system (incl. HD) and see whether it shows any problems.

I left the repair end of the industry over 22 years ago, long before the mouse, at the end of paper tape input era. So I have one foot in the grave. Never heard of Linux Live until I did a quick check. Then I wonder if I'm wasting time and frustration when I give it up and have it fixed under warrenty. I started out thinking that it's fixable doing what I've done. With my background it's hard to let go!
