Connect to 32" LCD TV from Lenovo T61 with a VGA connector
Hi,
I am trying to connect to 32" LCD TV 1080P from Thinkpad T61 with a VGA connector. When I do (Fn+Ctrl+F7) I can see the T61's output on my TV if I set T61's display setting as 1280x768. Then If I increase the resolution on the TV the screen becomes black. I want to change the display setting to 1920x1080 so that I can see output as full screen on my TV.
Notebook setting as follows
Color Quality - 32 bit
Refresh Rate - 60 Hertz
How can I change the screen resolution?

I'm having the same issue with a T61 and a T400 connecting to a 42" Plasma from Panasonic. Anything above 1024x768 wont display
It's a 1080p plasma panel.
It's a 1080p plasma panel.

Before you try to just plug things in at random, check with the maker of the TV set for the maximum input frequency and input specs in general, then check the output specs of the computer.
Not so long ago, folks regularly BLEW MONITORS by plugging them into computers that had high-res video cards. Signal from the video card is too high frequency, the monitor tries to deal with it, and literally blows up from the mismatch.
Since your LCD TV is being used as a monitor...it should be susceptible to the same damage. Just 'cause the plug fits, doesn't mean it is safe to plug it in.

LITERALLY blows up? As in ka-blooey, with shrapnel flying around and hurting people?!?hellosailor wrote:Signal from the video card is too high frequency, the monitor tries to deal with it, and literally blows up from the mismatch..

Not quite like the penguin on the telly, but internal parts like capacitors can overheat and explode. And, if you've never had an internal part (in my case a large diode type part) explode on a circuit board three feet away from you...it gets the juices flowing.<G>

I used a shotgun on some old crt's once. I wonder if it made you feel the same way....
My plasma is 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz through the HDMI ports.
VGA will only support up to 1024x768 60Hz.

What about using a DVI-to-HDMI adapter cable? (using the DVI port on an Advanced Mini Dock). Would that work at 1920x1080 ?

Definitively works for 1080i (tested with my TV). Not sure about 1080p (don't have a TV to test).
