T60 dock connector failure

My work T60 BSOD last Friday. I left it to our tech and went to lunch. Came back and he had it working. Went back to my desk, put it back on the mini dock and it BSOD again. We tried another dock and it did the same thing.

Since we just put in a 200GB 7200RPM drive, we thought it was the cloning. The old 80GB drive was still around. We tried it and it did the same thing. Our tech saw errors to be driver related so we un-installed a few drivers related to the dock such as the scanner but to no avail.

Since the computer would work off the dock (need to cycle thru safe mode once) I took it home for the weekend. It worked fine off the dock over the whole weekend. I entered a service ticket on www.lenovo.com early Monday morning. Service rep called and decided to change the MB.

Today the Lenovo Onsite service tech came and tested it on the dock and confirmed BSOD on the dock. He changed the MB and it BSOD again. After cycling thru safe mode it worked fine on and off the dock, what a relief!!!

This T60 is almost 2 years old. I put it on the dock once or twice each day on a working day. That would mean about 500 cycles until failure. Not too good.

What are the pieces in the kit? How does that help?

Small plastic caps that go onto the 2 metal pins on the docking station. This prevents static electricity and thus prevents BSOD/reboots/lockouts.
