Hi guys,
I was about to buy a Thinkpad T61 today. Great condition cosmetically and even carries warranty with it. The only thing that I didn't like though was when I powered it on, it showed it could have or does belong to some company called Invitrogen. I just don't feel right cause this might be stolen. The serial # checked out okay but that might only be because it wasn't reported yet (assuming it was stolen). Should I just stay away from this thing or would you still buy it?

You could
call or e-mail them, provide the serial and ask if it's stolen. I'd imagine either the Media Relations or Licensing & Collaborations contact person would be able to find out. You might be doing them a favour in recovering a stolen PC.

Invitrogen is a company that deals with royalties for medical research and whatnot. I have done some DB work for them in the past.
Who is selling the laptop?

Yeah, that makes sense. Last I was working for them they were down around the oceanside area of things.
Could be a stolen laptop. Or it could be an older one purchased from the company by the employee.
What is the price of the unit?
