Gateway 600YG2 LCD to 15" T60 1953-EAU...possible?

Ok...
I have this Gateway 600YG2 laptop with a 15.7" 1280x1024 SXGA LCD.
I want to see if I can hack the LCD to replace the XGA 15" in my T60.
Is it possible or am I on crack?
Also my laptop features Intel GPU whereas the Gateway features a Radeon 9000. I don't think the Intel GPU should have any problems handling the LCD unless of course the inverter doesn't like it or the display cable is totally proprietary which is my biggest and also most realistic fear.
Thanks in advance as always.

Not going to fly...T60s have a huge issue with BIOS accepting a "foreign" LCD, so you'd have to do quite some modding...assuming that everything else (cable pinout etc.) checks OK...
If you have some patience and $100 or so, new SXGA+ IPS screens can be had...eBay seller thinkpadplus is a good source. I have NO affiliation with them apart from being a satisfied repeat customer.
Good luck.

... agree with what George said; get an original IBM/Lenovo FRU-branded T60/p part, and that's it. See the thread
LF - 15" SXGA+ or UXGA IPS LCD - more especially
this post - for which P/N's or FRU's tp watch out for. Messing with "transforming" the EDID in non-genuine IBM/Lenovo LCD's for e.g. T60-use is fairly advanced stuff for most users..

That's what I thought also.
I will be getting my tax return in the next few weeks.
Still got any 15" SXGA+ LCD's left Johan?

That's a very interesting 15.7" LCD. From what i found, only LG/Philips were the supplier of 15.7" LCDs to 600YG2. From looking at the datasheet for the LCD, it is actually a true 8 bit panel

However, the weight at 865 g is slightly too much for the T60 hinges maybe, to make it feel right.
Also, how would you fit a 15.7" LCD in a 15.0" chassis? Even if it was possible the thickness 7.4 mm is stretching it - there would be no excess room. Also it is a 5:4 format LCD, not 4:3
It seems to use a 30-pin connector, but being from 1999 it also isn't a standard pinout - you'll smoke your T60 and the LCD if you connect it. Also, there is no EEPROM to hold the EDID, so it would't have displayed any image at all, even if the pinouts were the same.
Compare pinouts at:
http://www.phys.szote.u-szeged.hu/bbala ... p157e1.pdf -- page 3
to for example
http://www.gblcd.com/datacenter/idtech/IAQX10.pdf -- page 11
It's probably best if it stayed in the 600YG2...

Yeah, the LCD swap was a bad idea.
I'm getting tired of the XGA resolution on this unit and want to upgrade the LCD at a reasonable cost. I have a few dead laptops at work and we rape them for parts when customers leave them. I was hopeful (although not all that much so) that the LCD's would automagically be compatible with on another. It does not surprise me that the aren't.
RE: 15.7" vs 15.0". <-- I didn't pay attention. My fault.
So now I am once again looking for an SXGA screen or better for my T60 and it must work with Intel GPU.

If I were to purchase that, do I need a new inverter and cable also?
Thanks.

No you don't...
Gotta love the fact that guy completely swiped my description for a similar LCD...

According to
15 inch LCD service parts - ThinkPad T60/pp (models with 4:3 LCD) there
are different inverters for XGA and SXGA+ T60's:
Inverter card (15in)
XGA FRU=42T0077 and Inverter card (15in)
SXGA+/UXGA FRU=42T0079.
The cable is the same for XGA/SXGA+/UXGA (but note that there are two different cables; one with Bluetooth and one without).

This would suggest that a different inverter is used with TN panels and IPS ones (since all 15" SXGA+/UXGA T60/p are IPS).

I installed a WUXGA 15.4 LCD I pulled out of an HP NX6000 into a widescreen T60 and it worked flawlessly.
I installed a SXGA+ LCD pulled from a Dell D600 in a standard T60 and while it worked in windows it would show a blank screen in the BIOS and had video abnormalities during POST.
