Screen becoms much darker & contrasty after XP loads

#1 Post by leeT61p » Tue Feb 17, 2009 6:05 pm

Hi:

I have a lenovo T61P with the 1920x1200 screen.

This problem started happening about a month ago ...

Once windows XP loads, near the end of the complete boot proces (the grassy field background is visible), the screen suddenly gets very dark and contrasty. The grass is almost black and the sky is dark blue.

I have put my hard drive in an identical T61P and I get the same result so its not a HW problem.

FYI only, I have Matrox Powerdesk SE (multiple external monitor) Software loaded but I have used this for a year.
Everything looks fine on an external monitor.

I have checked all the usual suspects but can't figure this out.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Regards,
Lee

Hi,
Sounds like an application that loads at startup which adjusts the LCD gamma value. Typical value is 2.2, lowering this creates the effect - more or less - that you have.
But is it only the wallpaper, and not the icons?
Maybe you can find a setting for color and gamma, from desktop, Properties -> Settings -> Advanced. Not having an Nvidia card i don't know where to surch further, but maybe what you are looking for looks like this:
https://support.dell.com/support/edocs/ ... _clrco.gif
.. and then check that gamma is 1.00 (i.e. 1.00 times 2.2)

Welcome by the way :)

Hello Troels:

Thank-you so much!
Yes, this was the problem (everything was dark - including icons, all applications etc).

Display properties for windows does not do this.
The Nvidia Control Panel (right click on the desktop), under the "adjust desktop color settings" has the gamma option.

Problem fixed.

Thanks again!!!!

Regards,
Lee
