T60p with mini dock and two external monitors / 3200x1200 ?
T60p with mini dock and two external monitors / 3200x1200 ?
I currently have a 20" plugged into the dvi port and a 19" into the vga port of the dock. Total spanned res is 2560x1024. The 20" supports up to 1600x1200 but I have it set to 1280x1024 because the max res on the 19" is 1280x1024. I'm planning on picking up a 20" to upgrade the 19" I currently have. If both 20" monitors can do 1600x1200 res, and one of them is plugged into the vga port on the dock, will I be able to do 3200x1200 combined ?
Anybody here doing this ? Thanks for your help.

sure, no problem. I'm using sometimes two external monitors (one WUXGA via DVI and one UXGA via VGA) at the same time.

How are you doing this ? With DualHead2Go Digital ? That would be fantastic too!

Sorry for being really unclear in my earlier post. I revised it to make it clear that I altogether use only two external monitors, not 4 (as you may have read it).
Re: T60p with mini dock and two external monitors / 3200x1200 ?
It will do dual-UXGA externally. My R50p and T43p only have one VGA out. They push my IBM T210 21" monitor which is QXGA (2048x1536). My T61p is being shipped and should arrive soon, and I'm hopeful it'll do it, too. I doubt the DVI port would push QXGA as I find DVI ports work with the T210 when they are dual-link DVI unless you are doing something special with powerstrip and EDID, etc., so likely the highest resolution your computer might run would be 1920x1200 plus 2048x1536. Not that you want to run those resolutions, but I suspect it's possible.
If you did want higher resolution, the DVI port on a T60p might run a 3840x2400 monitor at 13 to 17Hz. You can add multiple dual-link DVI ports by adding a video card to your computer by either buying an Asus XG Station which will plug into your expresscard slot (Magma sells them but they are expensive, XG stations can be bought for a couple hundred dollars, yet are only sold in Australia, you can swap out the 8600GT card for a more current card). Each Dual-link DVI will support up to 3840x2400. IBM T221-DG5 @ 24 to 33.7Hz or each DVI port would run up to 3840x2400 at 12 to 17Hz. Not that you want to run a high resolution monitor, all I am saying is the possibilities are endless. There are also some older products out there such as the VTBook from Villagetronic which work with PCMCIA cards, etc.
Hope that helps

Re: T60p with mini dock and two external monitors / 3200x1200 ?
Thanks for the confirmation. It does indeed work! I picked up a 20" today and with this monitor in the VGA port and another 20" in the DVI port of the dock, I get a total combined res of 3200x1200. It's fantastic! It's probably easy on Vista to configure this mode, but in linux with the CL it's a little bit detailed. Here's what I did at the command line to span my desktop across two monitors:
sudo aticonfig --initial -f
sudo aticonfig --initial=dual-head --screen-layout=right
sudo aticonfig --dtop=horizontal --overlay-on=1
sudo aticonfig --resolution=0,3200x1200,1600x1200,1600x1200
sudo aticonfig --enable-monitor=tmds1,crt1
For kicks, could I attach one monitor at 1600x1200 to the VGA port on the dock and a DualHead2Go Digital to the DVI port of the dock. Two monitors attached to the outputs of the DualHead2Go with a merged res of 3200x1200. So a total of three monitors with combined res of 4800x1200.
Who's gone this far with a t60p or similar ?

Re: T60p with mini dock and two external monitors / 3200x1200 ?
I've had a pair of 1600x1200 monitors running off the Port Replicator II (which has a DVI port, unlike the advanced port replicator) with a T43 ATI X300 Graphics. It also works with a T42, and a T30.
Re: T60p with mini dock and two external monitors / 3200x1200 ?
Sorry to bring this up from the past. I think I know the answer but wanted some confirmation from experts.
My wife's work machine is a T60p with the V5250 ATI chip and running WinXP. She's about to get a new dock, the advanced dock with dual DVI.
I have her on a Dell 24" monitor at 1920x1200 and want to add a second of the same resolution, but it appears that the ATI chip won't do that (meaning 3840x1200 essentially). Is this correct? She *does not* use the built-in screen when using external monitor.
Thanks.
