T61p requires daily restart - not sure what's up
I have a t61p (6459-CTO) running Windows XP Pro.
A problem has developed since the last time I updated all the drivers using System Update. It looses all network connectivity once day ( generally 24 hrs after the last restart, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less ). This issue can only be resolved with a restart.
I tried uninstalling Access Connections, and lots of other things, but to no avail. I suspect it might be a memory leak of some sort, although no obvious candidates appear in the task manager.
One thing to note is that once the fail happens, it's often impossible to even run taskmgr (you get some DLL failure).
Has anyone else had this kind of problem, or does anyone have any recommendations in tracking down the culprit.
Thanks,
KB

Re: T61p requires daily restart - not sure what's up
I would manually reinstall a few things:uninstall all of the following and install them in this order -> Power Management driver -> Lenovo Power Manager -> wifi driver -> AC
To restore your connectivity try following: Device Manager -> your wifi card -> power management -> uncheck "allow this computer to turn off the wifi device to save power". I would also leave AC uninstalled for a while and see if the problem persists.
Unfortunately, System Update is well-known to sometimes break things. There are many threads on this forum how to apply updates, which updates to apply etc. The best thing you can do is to manually install every single next update from Lenovo. And don´t forget to read the changelogs. If you don´t have any problems with the current Lenovo drivers/applications, it´s better to leave them like this. An update simply cannot make it better from such a point (only worse)...
Hope this helps,
Marin

Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

Sounds like a problem related to your installation of the new driver. Have you tried a driver rollback or system restore to before the time you driver was updated?

Re: T61p requires daily restart - not sure what's up
Neither the above uninstalls nor the roll backs had a effect, so I ended up restoring to a point before the rogue system update. Seems more solid already. Teaches me why I need to restore more often - and not to use System Update.

I use system update like I use XP's automatic updates function - to notify me of new updates that I go and download manually if/when I want them.

I second that.Nameless wrote:I use system update like I use XP's automatic updates function - to notify me of new updates that I go and download manually if/when I want them.
