New (to me) T60 after updates locks up on battery power

#1 Post by New2T60guy » Wed Mar 11, 2009 1:58 pm

First off i would like to thank you guys for the very informative site!

Ive been on here reading and searching for answers for the past 2 days.

While ive found related posts, none seem to exactly answer the problem im having so i thought id (humbly) ask for some help.

So purchased a off lease t-60 with the following specs.

ThinkPad T60 2623-D6U 1.83GHz
80 GB HD
1024 MB Ram
ATI Radeon X1300

After it arrived i was very pleased with the condition of the laptop and having shopped around for over a month though i paid a fair price at $399+shipping.

Since ive owned it ive done very minimal things to it such as just loading a few programs (cs2, and my messenger toolbars) and loading my pictures and music (about 3.5 gb's worth of music.)

I then brought it in to my buddy at work whos my resident computer guy to check it out for me.

He proceeded to load all the updates from microsoft and get it on the newer SP3, with additional updates that were needed.

When on plug power Laptop works perfectly fine.

Immediatley after laptop pc is taken off of the power cable within about 20 secs it locks up and requires a power down to use again.

Also if powered up on battery only it will run through the startup and get to my desktop screen then within the same 20 secs the pointer locks and have to restart.

I went ahead and used a restore point to verify that the latest download is indeed what is causing the problem and what do you know pc works fine when restored to before last update.

So im curious which one of the updates needs rolled back to keep my laptop working as its supposed to.

Id like to be able to utilize the newer SP3, and associated update so i undid the restore point and will be using a power plug until i figure it out.

Any help or suggestions is greatly appriciated and thanks in advance for youre time.
