Is the lid of t6x made of magnesium?

#1 Post by radiator » Fri Mar 13, 2009 4:27 am

I have recently read that all the thinkpads's lids up to t43 are made of magnesium. And what about t6x series? Are they made of anythingelse than magnesium?

Straight from the LTWBOOK/TABOOK:

T60 14": Magnesium composite top cover, Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) bottom cover
T60 15"/15.4": Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) in top/bottom
T61 (all): Top: Super-Elastic PolyCarconate (SEPC); Bottom: Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Plastic
Current: X220 4291-4BG, T410 2537-R46, T60 1952-F76, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G
Collectibles: T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X32 (IPS Screen)
Retired: X61 7673-V2V, A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
Past: Z61t 9440-A23, T60 2623-D3U, X32 2884-M5U

Supposedly the design department chose the Super-Elastic PolyCarconate to achieve higher wireless signal since that material allows it. Can't tell which is better SEPC or Magnesium

I notice a higher signal on my T61 then I ever did on my T43. I was able to connect where I wouldnt dream of connecting before. But I also believe this has a slightly better wireless card than what is in my T43 so I dont know for sure.

Probably the card more than the chassis, especially if we're comparing Intel or Broadcom to Atheros.

98% of my Internet connectivity is via WiFi, as I use it everywhere, everyday, and have been for years. I find the T60 & newer models such as my W500 are quite amazing when it comes to their wireless performance. The intel cards adding to their range as opposed to atheros.

I converted my T61p to have the symmetrical T60p's 14.1 4:3 magnesium top cover screen :)

Either or works great. I didn't see a difference.
T61p [8891-CTO]: Intel X9000 (2.8GHz) CPU, 8GB RAM, 128GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD, 14.1in 1400x1050 (4:3) Modified Symmetrical LCD cover & bezel, nVidia FX 570M, DVDRW, Intel 6300 WiFi, BT, FR, Windows 7, SLIC2.1, Unlocked SATA II middleton BIOS, WLAN Whitelist Modified. Mint Condition.
