t61p Motherboard part number questin

Recently, I had my motherboard replaced by an IBM tech.
I am trying to find out if my new motherboard is the updated FRU (which supports the T9xxx processors).
Is there a way I can find this out? I have tried the parts lookup, but I believe this is tied in to the serial number of the laptop when it was first made, and does not have the current system specs....
Any help would be appreciated, I would prefer not to have to take apart the computer and look for the fru.
Thanks

You can look up the motherboard revision using CPU-Z

Rev 0 so I assume its the same as the original motherboard?

I'd agree with that assumption...

Your 14" T61p probably came with the original 42W7874 FRU motherboard. If it was replaced, it should have been replaced with FRU 44C3926. The 44C3926 in any revision should take the T9XXX CPU. But, if they replaced it with the original FRU, it's a crap shoot. You might want to PM Mark@Lenovo on this forum and ask for his advice.

Thanks for your help,
I think I will open up thinkpad to take a look at the part number...Where exactly on the motherboard is the FRU located? Thanks

Ok I checked my parts lookup,
I think lenovo updated it as it now shows two Planars:
42W9384 42W7650 SYSTEM PLANAR; FRU PLANAR CARD ASM NVIDI
42W3811 42W7650 SYSTEM PLANAR; FRU PLANAR CARD ASM NVIDI
Trying to figure out the difference thanks

I would like to make sure if I can install a 44C3926 into a 14" base. In fact I wanna upgrade my T60p (to break the 3GB barrier), so I was looking at a 14" T61p motherboard. The FRU I found on HMM is 42W7874, but as someone pointed out, it's the FRU for motherboards that might suffer from overheating problem. According to lenovo's website, 42W7874 will be replaced by 44C3926, but that's for the 15" model (with machine type 64xx). It looks to me like 44C3926 is for 15" model, while 42W7874 is for 14" T61p, so I am really confused... Could someone provide some more information about this? Thanks a lot.

If your T60p is a 4:3 ratio machine the boards you are looking at are for the widescreen models.

hi Brad,
I thought the WS boards would go into a 15" 4;3 case fine.
Are you talking about a physical-fit issue, or something remediable, like needing a new BIOS or EDID-info ?
thanks!

(fyi, my own project is to replace my 2623-ddu uxga t60p board with an integrated-graphics board)

You can't physically fit a board from a widescreen T6x into a standard 4:3. Period.
What you should be looking for is a board from a 14" T61 in a 4:3 version, or a 14"/15" T60 with integrated graphics.
Hope this helps.

howdy George,
Yes indeed that helps....that was what I was looking for....confirmation that it was a physical-fit issue, and not something fixable/moddable.
I had been thinking "T61"....but recently realized that it would mean having to buy new DVD-burner drives......correct? (i.e. need new sata dvd)
My goal/priority is power and heat reduction, so I don't need the ability to take newer CPU's from a performance standpoint....but I do wonder if any of the newer cpu's might actually use less power than this T2500 ??
If so, then going the t61-board route may well be worth doing.

@dozer:
You don't need a different media drive for the T61 board...

Oh!.....huh....I was sure I'd read somewhere here that the 61-series were SATA, and my 60 is a pata.
Or does the mainboard have both connectors?
So...just slide a 61's DVD-RW right into the t60p bay, eh?....cool!
