Like title says, I am doing some cleanup on my laptop by deleting some files I don't need / use and backing what I do want up to an external. I finish this and am using Syncplicity to transfer a couple new files over to the T61P from my desktop when all of the sudden I hear this awful grinding crunching noise coming from the lower left corner of my laptop, right where the main HDD is, it did this for about 6 seconds and then stopped .

It still appears to be working, I am downloading Hitachi's diagnostic tools right now to run on it.

Sorry to hear of the unexpected noises.

Great idea to fun the DFT.

On my T61 the hard drive is in the front right corner.

This may be obvious, but regardless of whatever you normally do to backup your data, NOW is the time, before running diagnostics to stress the drive.
