T61 is freezing in Firefox....any thoughts.

I'll list out in point form what's happening an the actions I've taken in an attempt to make this clear and concise:
1) I have a T61 and I've noticed that Firefox starts freezing when I start opening up 3 or 4 windows at once. I've never had a problem doing this in the past.
2) When it freezes, the whole computer freezes up, then Firefox shuts down and I get a Microsoft window asking me if I want to send in an error report
3) While the computer is frozen, I start to get chirping sounds coming out of the left side of the machine. Sounds like it could be the HD (although it's on the right side of the computer).
4) I did a rescue and recovery and brought the computer back to how it was last year and it still seems to be doing it (that rules out a software, Operating System error doesn't it?)
Any thoughts on what it could be? I thought it could be the ram, but I just loaded up a fairly graphic intensive game (Urban Terror) and tested it for 20 mins without any issues at all. Surely if the ram was bad, it would show in the game as it probably uses up more resources than Firefox does.
This computer is 1 year and 4 days old.....so I'm out of the factory warranty by 4 days
.....so I'm hoping it's not a major hardware issue.
Any input or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
James
