One quirk, though, the battery won't come out - the release tab on the battery moves from the locked position to the unlocked position but theres about another 1mm space for movement (the old T4x had a spring resistance here) but it won't budge. Any insights?

Snagged a second T61p locally.....
Well, I was lucky enough to snag a T61p after a squirrelly seller finally came through. 8889-CTO (a very early one), 14.1: 4x3 display (dull as crap, just like my other one but with slightly worse backlight bleed), T7700 C2D CPU, Nvidia 570M GPU, 1GB ram, 160GB 5400 HDD, DVD/RW, a/b/g/n wireless, bluetooth, good 9 cell battery, 90W AC adapter. $500! I's been well used - the palmrest and keyboard are shiney enough to put your makeup on with
. But I'm thrilled!

There is nothing different for you to know about how this battery is latched in place, as compared to other ThinkPads.sktn77a wrote:<snip> the battery won't come out - the release tab on the battery moves from the locked position to the unlocked position but theres about another 1mm space for movement (the old T4x had a spring resistance here) but it won't budge.<snip>
What I would do is to very carefully apply a little WD-40 in the gaps between the battery and the computer. It has a wicking action, which will allow it to spread around between the battery and the computer, which may be all it takes to free it. I would concentrate on the corners, as those are the most likely places for binding. Since it will not hurt the plastic or any electrical contacts you are perfectly safe. The real key is to go slow and to only use what you must. Good Luck!
Cheers...

Yes, 1400x1050 SXGA+ screen but not a flexview (it's a 14"). Like I said, nothing to write home about.
I'll try the WD40. I've got a feeling the latch is broken though and that it will need to be disengaged from the inside.
Aw, what the heck.....
