Boot from 2. pata bay-harddrive without having 1. sata drive

Is this configuration possible: T60 with no first sata hdd installed. It has a ultrabay pata hdd. Can I work on this system and boot from ultrabay hdd? Is it automatically or do I have to click on something while booting everytime? Thanks.

Just had this situation yesterday while installing Windows 7 beta on a PATA drive in UltraBay on my T60 (sig).
I'm not sure what order I had in BIOS but for me it wanted to boot from network first. That failed pretty quick and then it booted automatically from the UltraBay drive. No need to touch anything.
I suppose the network boot can be skipped with a proper BIOS config.
