My T60p just turned three as well.
I bought a new W500 and I'm very happy with it.
The configuration I bought is 2.8GHz / 4GB / 160GB 7200rpm, and it's a rocket! About the only thing that would make it faster is an SSD, however I'm still testing those in some of my other ThinkPads. So far I've tried OCz, Samsung, and Intel. Like anything else they have their pros and cons, thus far I've yet to find a favorite or one that I'm ready to install in my W500.
Here's a link to the W500 selection:

Just curious, what are you doing where you think you'd benefit from a newer machine? If you go with another 14" machine, you'd be giving up the 1050 vertical resolution because all the new high resolution 14" notebooks are 1440x900.

I am in the same boat. Unfortunately I HATE widescreens and don't want a larger/heavier machine. The 14" T400's are bigger and give up too much vertical screen real estate, plus the battery sticks out the back. The T500/W500 is HUGE.
I am looking at a T61/p 4:3. There are a few new ones floating around eBay.

Actually if one works off the facts:
1) My W500 is lighter than my T60p & T61p by 1/2 lb. (Each w/6 cell batt)
2) The W500 has the same size footprint just a different shape.
3) The Std Battery of my T400 does _not_ protrude out the back.
*only extended life batteries protrude out the back of _all_ models above.*
.
While I definitely prefer the 15" UXGA 1600x1200 4:3 IPS Flexview of my T60p. Flexviews are now history, so I'm going to use my W500 alternately with my favorite T60p to prolong its service life. Who knows what tomorrows models will bring.
.
