Two external WSXGA+ (1680x1050) LCDs on Lenovo T61

Hi All,

I have a Lenovo T61 with an integrated Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset. I want to run 2 external WSXGA+ LCD monitors (1680x1050 resolution) either through DVI or VGA - I don't care as long as it works at that resolution. The monitors should form an extended desktop (*not* mirror). I do not need to use my laptop screen. Is this possible at all?

I have a minidock if that is of any help at all. The minidock has a DVI port and a D-SUB (VGA) port.

I am willing to spend some money on making this work, so if you know of any alternatives (other than buying a new computer, and de-soldering the current graphics board and installing a new one), please let me know. I know of USB to DVI/VGA converters etc. but I am not sure if they run at this resolution and what framerates they are capable of (although I don't care much about framerate - my primary job is kernel programming).

I am quite desperate to get this working.

Thanks a lot for any help in this regard!

Yes, it will work. One through the VGA port, one through the DVI. No other hardware is required.

Thanks! This worked. Interestingly, I tried this once before and it did not seem to work. I gave up all hope (did not find much on the Internet either). I finally decided I am going to chuck my T61 and use my Macbook Pro with a Matrox DualHead2Go - until I saw this post and gave it another shot. Now it works perfectly! I am going to cancel the order I placed with Amazon for the Matrox product. Thanks a ton!

I do have some quick questions though (I realize that this is not a monitor forum, but a Thinkpad forum, do let me know if I need to post elsewhere):

1. I see a small color difference between the two Dell panels. Is there some utility that lets me calibrate the color for both monitors and make them the same?

2. Is there a way to tell windows to treat the 2 external monitors as one big external monitor (with resolution of 3360x1050)?

Thanks again for your valuable help!
