I have a 14" T61 4:3. When I ordered it, I configured it to have the Express Card slot instead of the media card reader. Is there a way that I can modify this myself to have the media card reader that I would have gotten if I picked that option in the first place? I don't want a third-party reader.

If this is possible, do you know the part number? Cost?

I tried searching but could only find threads regarding card readers options that go in the Express Card slot.

Is this possible on a T60 also, i.e use the T61 card reader part on the T60.

I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. The part number is 42X3831, ACS has it for $35.00 plus shipping.

But...because the card cage is on top of the motherboard and under the roll cage, near 100% disassembly of the laptop would be necessary to install it.

No, the connector for the card cage is not the same for the T60 and T61.
