Problem using USB keyboards, external drives

#1 Post by mcmackinm » Tue May 19, 2009 5:34 pm

I've jsut recently begun to have a problem with my T61. I'd plug my keyboard or external hard drive into a usb port, and the drivers would install and it would work fine. However, when I turned the computer on and off again, I would plug the keyboard/drive into the same usb port and it did not work. It made the ding sound for when it recognizes something connecting, but I could not use or even see the device. I put it into a new usb slot and it worked, but only until I shut the computer off again. Can anyone help?

Check USB entry under "config" in BIOS. If that is disabled, it won't work at power-up.

I'm sorry, I don't know exactly where to find that (not that good at troubleshooting). Could you be more specific?

Restart the machine. Hit F1 a couple of times when you see the "IBM" screen. It will let you change BIOS settings. Select "config", then USB
