I think I read that you really don't need an HD caddy to use with the Lenovo Ultrabay SATA HD adapter (pn 45J7901 for T60).
The adapter is a slick tool-less design, but I just discovered that the HD will practically fall out if the unit is turned upside down! The springs on the sides don't do too much to hold a bare drive secure. OK, so I'll be careful not to turn it upside down, but I imagine that the drive could also take quite a beating when installed in the Ultrabay and the thinkpad is being transported.
Anyone have a negative experience going caddy-less in the adapter?
Bob

Re: HD caddy with Ultrabay SATA adapter?
I generally don't use caddies on the drives in UltraBay Slim HDD carriers, and haven't had any probelms.... however, I do take care not to turn the carrier upside down when it's outside a ThinkPad.

Re: HD caddy with Ultrabay SATA adapter?
If this is the same as the T4x ultrabay slim adapter, then it has a recess in each side for you to use 2 screws at the back end (non-connector end) of the drive to prevent it dropping out when you turn it upside down.

Re: HD caddy with Ultrabay SATA adapter?
As posted, caddies are unnecessary, but I do kind of miss the aesthetic look of IBM branding on ultrabay caddies, and their color coding. Caddies interfere with swapability, so that's not a selling point, but an optional (tool-less) snap-on cover to this drive adapter that allows it to still fit into the bay would be nice, and allow some protection against that falling problem.
