T60 (2007-CB4) 60gb HD upgrade trouble (SOLVED)
T60 (2007-CB4) 60gb HD upgrade trouble (SOLVED)
Hello,
I just purchased a T60 on eBay and thought I could slap a 320gb 7200.4 inside after the Acronis clone. The new drive is identified correctly under the latest BIOS 2.23 but after post I get a "blinking" underline cursor. I called IBM tech and they said the max drive that 2007-CB4 could see was 160gb. I read this forum for 2 hours last night and found a thread on whitelist and read plenty of successful drive upgrades as well. I don't if whitelist is the problem or if my Acronis image was bad so I used the BIOS utility to check the drive but it wouldn't read the drive and the utility stayed at 0% until I aborted. Is there a way to verify if I can use a drive larger than IBM tech's recommended 160gb?
I have a Hitachi 200 7K100 and a Seagate 7200.4 320gb but don't want to purchase a 160gb drive if that is not the problem and I would like more space without using the Ultrabay?
Thanks,

Re: T60 (2007-CB4) 60gb HD upgrade trouble
The tech should have said that the biggest drive originally sold was 160GB. Your 320 will work fine. Are you running XP or Vista?

XP. It just worried me that the BIOS HD utility didn't read from the drive. Also, it appeared as though the Acronis "Clone" process worked and it wouldn't boot so I started worrying that there was an issue. Just don't know what I am doing wrong?richk wrote:The tech should have said that the biggest drive originally sold was 160GB. Your 320 will work fine. Are you running XP or Vista?

What BIOS HD utility. Do you mean the HD diagnostic? That should work fine. Where did you mount the drive to clone it?

I used USB cable for the new drive.richk wrote:That should work fine. Where did you mount the drive to clone it?

When cloning, put the target drive (new drive) in the ThinkPad and the source drive in the external enclosure. Oftentimes this is the only way that works.

That worked flawlessly. Thanks very much!GomJabbar wrote:When cloning, put the target drive (new drive) in the ThinkPad and the source drive in the external enclosure. Oftentimes this is the only way that works.
