Screen resolution question on t60 running windows 7

#1 Post by Titleist026 » Thu Jun 18, 2009 12:20 pm

Hey all, i just purchased my first thinkpad, t60 2008-ggu. Specs are as follows:

T7200 2.0ghz
2gb ram
100gb 7200rpm
ati mobility x1300

yada yada yada...im sure you get the picture...

anywho, i just installed windows 7 fresh on here and the largest resolution i can run is 1024*768...is this correct? something seems wrong. i have installed the latest driver (albeit from 07) for the video card and windows recognizes it. I'm just wondering if I'm missing something or is the max resolution for the x1300 1024*768?

thanks,
Doug

What is the native resolution of your laptop screen, XGA(1024*768) or SXGA+(1400*1050)? X1300 should be able to drive SXGA+ without problem.
Core 2 Duo T7600, 3GB DDR2-667 RAM, Main 7K320 320GB 7200RPM + Ultrabay 320GB 5400RPM, ATI FireGL V5250, 15" IPS UXGA, DVDRW, Bluetooth, Atheros ABGN, NMB Keyboard, Fingerprint, Win7 Pro X86 + Vista 64-bit SP2, Advanced Dock.

Not exactly sure how I check that. Ill look at it when I get home and get back to you. Assuming everything is in working order I'm guessing I have the xga model screen. Just thought that a new laptop with a dedicated card would at least be able to run a higher resolution.... :|

What is the seven digital model number on the bottom of the unit?

EX; 1953-EAU or something like that.

This will help us determine which LCD you have in your thinkpad.

If it is an XGA LCD then it's maximum resolution would be 1024x768. However if it is an SXGA+ LCD then it's maximum resolution wold be 1400x1050.

Where did you buy the laptop from? Was there a thorough description of it?
New:
Thinkpad T430s 8GB DDR3, 1600x900, 128GB + 250GB SSD's, etc.

Are you sure it's GGU? QuickPath is saying that's an invalid number, and ltwbook doesn't list it.

Although, what I'm finding on Google is that it's 1024x768. Does it look at all out of focus?

looks in focus....Im pretty sure native res. is 1024*768 but I wanted to make sure. I might put this back on ebay and get a t61 with 1440*990 for a few bucks more....I do alot of excel and spss work at school and could probably benefit from a widescreen display.

cpuz says that model number, and its listed on the lenovo website as well.

I'd be afraid of an nVidia-equipped T61 with no warranty, myself, just because of the failure rate of the G84 and G86 GPUs.

Um, you could've gotten a T61 with integrated graphics instead of that...

Thinkpad t61 bottom line avg price in ebay is about 450

similar spec dv2000 avg price is about 300, one im looking at still has a year left on warranty too :P

this was my third thinkpad...the first two were t40 and t42, both of which had the inverter crap out on me...and the last i wasn't happy with the screen....

again i just need a 14.1 widescreen notebook to take to class...nothing special...i do most of my work on my desktop which has a 23.5 1080p hd monitor...YUM

Look up the model number and serial number on the Warranty Lookup page. If it gives the warranty information then this is probably an internal Lenovo asset (eg demo/loaner/employee). They used model designations for these that were never release to the info database.
