On Screen Display and Thinkvantage button not working

#1 Post by stufff » Mon Jun 29, 2009 5:51 pm

Running a T61, Windows XP Pro SP3, 2GHz, 1G Ram.

After several updates and deletions today, OSD and the ThinkVantage button no longer work. Volume up and down buttons work, but the OSD for volume control does not show. Same for brightness control. The ThinkVantage button, which used to launch TV Productivity Center, no longer does anything, though it still works to access Rescue and Recovery during startup, and I can still launch TV Productivity Center manually.

Earlier today I uninstalled TV Power Management and TV Message Center because they were both doing annoying, spammy things. I then updated TV System Update, and then I upgraded to the latest BIOS version TVSU suggested. I think it was at this point I first noticed OSD was missing.

I then updated everything TVSU recommended, except for Message Center and Power Management. By this point I absolutely noticed OSD missing, because after I couldn't figure out what was going on, I even went back and tried reinstalling Message Center and Power Management, and still no OSD.

I currently am up to date with everything TVSU says I should have installed, even the optional stuff. For what it's worth, if I go into Display Properties>Settings>Advanced there is an "On Screen Display" tab, and all my setting are there as they should be, "On-screen display" is checked, font and colors are correct, and it says there will be OSD for speaker volume, LCD Brightness, Thinklight, and Display switching.... there just isn't.

I'm sort of at a loss for what to do. Far as I can tell everything that should be there for it to work is there.

I also saw a thread here complaining of a similar problem, but there was a grey dot which I do not have, and the problem seemed specific to Vista systems. I tried the registry fix anyway, and nothing happened.

Edit: On Screen Display appears as an item in my add/remove programs panel, and it says the version is 5.21.01

The hotkey driver is what controls the on-screen displays. I know in Vista you have to have the system interface driver installed before the hotkey will work, but it has always worked for me in XP after installing the hotkey driver.
