T61p, QuadroFX570m, Can't show 2048x1152 resolution

I have a thinkpad T61p with a Nvidia Quadro FX 570m video card. I recently purchased a Samsung Syncmaster 2343BWX. I have Windows XP Professional SP3. The monitor has a native 2048x1152 resolution at 60 hz. I cannot get the video card to provide a signal at this resolution. The highest stable resolution I can get from the video card is 1920 x 1080 at 60 hz.

I have the latest drivers for both the video card and the monitor. This does not help. When I try to make a custom resolution via the nvidia Control Panel and click "Test" the monitor exhibits no change and the custom profile is not created. I think the solution would be to custom edit the INF file (nv4_disp.inf) to introduce this resolution. However, I do not really know how to go about doing this. I also worry that I will mess things up badly if I fail at this.

Can anyone help me with this issue? I know this can work as my roomate can run the monitor with a Thinkpad t61 running Ubuntu. I think the issue here is that the custom thinkpad video card driver does not include a definition for this resolution.

Thanks,
Peter
