t61 battery condition poor

I have a 2 year old T61 with a flashing low battery indicator, even tho the system tray icon says it is at 96%. The Lenovo power manager battery information says the battery is in poor condition and irreparable damage has occurred to the battery. I use both it on and off the dock, but it has been on the dock for over a week, so wondering how the battery would become damaged. Has anyone had this happen?

Update: now the battery reads 0% and will not charge at all. The machine still works as long as it is plugged in. Based on other posts, it doesn't seem likely this is covered with the extended warranty. Any advice on a new battery? Is there a 9 cell for the 14.1"?

I would try taking it into a Lenovo service provider and getting a replacement battery. Doesn't hurt to try.

Hi,
Try the lenovo battery diagnostic tool on this page:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ATT-082009
If your battery is one of the defective one, it will prompt you to place a free replacement order.
I got one shipped in today. I came across this information last week and was able to place an order on 6th August.
Good luck.

Hi,
I just want to add that two of our T61p 9 cell battery (42T4511), built Nov 2007, just died this week, one week apart, with the same indication. Unfortunately, it's not the one listed for replacement and I haven't had luck but to buy a new battery.
I hope it's an isolated issue...
