Mouse problem with T60
I just got a basic Logitech USB mouse (model UAE-96). Plugged it into my T60, and the mouse pointer is kind of jerky when it moves. The mouse pointer moves very smoothly when I use the touchpad.
But then I plugged the mouse into my HP laptop, and the mouse pointer moves very smoothly. Both laptops are running Windows XP SP3. I also checked the Device Manager on both laptops, and both of them show "HID-compliant mouse" with the exact same Driver Provider, Driver Date, and Driver Version.
Also, Logitech has 2 different software packages on their web site for the USB optical mouse. I just tried both of them, and neither one helped.
Any idea why the mouse is jerky on the T60?

Seems to be a hardware, not software problem..... try another mouse. Some laptops are not willing to cooperate smoothly with some mouse devices....

Would you be able to give me the model number on the bottom of your mouse? Just wondering if IBM may have OEMed the mouse, in which case it might actually be a logitech. Just curious if a different model of Logitech might work with my T60.

MO28UOL - that's the model ID, IBM USB cord optical mouse. works perfect.

Hmm, the Microsoft mouse has the same problem. It's something about this T60.

Check : Start --> Control Panel --> Display --> Settings tab --> Advanced button --> Troubleshoot tab --> Hardware acceleration
... if this value is one notch lower than "Full" (which disables cursor and bitmap accelerations), then the cursor may be "jerky" and not smooth ... may appear differently with different mice.

Try: START/CONTROL PANEL/MOUSE and select the POINTER OPTION tab- change the SLOW-FAST speed indicator and check the ENHANCE PRECISION box.

But I have now noticed something. If I have the AC adapter plugged in, then the mouse seems a little jerky. But if I then disconnect the AC adapter, and run off the battery, the mouse will be really smooth. It will remain smooth even after I plug the AC adapter back in. The mouse will go back to jerky if I restart Windows.

The problem appears to be the ethernet network adapter. I noticed that when I unplug the AC adapter, that little ethernet icon in the system tray disappears (because it's configured to be turned off when running on the battery). So I disabled the Intel PRO/1000 PL network device, and now the mouse is always smooth!
How bizarre is that? Would like to find a fix for this, in case I need to use the ethernet port. I tried downloading the latest Intel PRO/1000 PL driver, but that didn't help. Could it be a resource conflict? But Windows won't let me change the Memory Range, I/O Range, or IRQ in the Device Manager (and I am logged in as Administrator).

I recently did a factory install of XP, and noticed that the mouse was not jerky even if the network adapter was enabled. Then I installed the latest version of the Intel ethernet driver (the Lenovo version), and the jerkiness came back. So I uninstalled that, and it was fine again. Looks like the version of the Intel ethernet driver that comes with the IBM factory version of XP does not have the problem, but then one of the subsequent versions of the driver introduced the problem. So try to downgrade your driver, if you can.

I downgrade the ethernet driver with the factory driver from the old hard disk (the old toshiba 5400rpm, now I have a new fujitsu 7200rpm
