Want FAN without the housing - T60
Since the original fans cause so many people (including me) so many problems, it doesn't make sense to buy another one.
I want to replace only the FAN and not the heatsink/housing it comes in. I would prefer to try a fan made and sold by someone other than the folks who made and sold the ones that constantly fail.
Other than the fan, I have no complaints with my machine.
I have a T60
2623 P3U
ATI graphics
Can someone please tell me the specs of the fan only?
And point me to a source?

If you take off the keyboard, you might see the fan label.
Worst case, you need to take it out and turn it over to find that info.

Re: Want FAN without the housing - T60
I don't want to disassemble the system if I can avoid it. I might find only a standard sticker with FRU and other information that doesn't help identify the specs for an aftermarket replacement.
I figured other people might already have taken their systems apart and (if it is possible) ordered fans that ended up working.
If no one can tell me the specs or a source, I will suspect that there might not be an aftermarket replacement that fits. I will still take the machine apart and try to ID the specs, but I would prefer to buy the fan before taking the system apart.

Here it is. Note: I don't think there is a high probability of success in disassembling/reassembling the housing which holds the fan. Copper tabs hold the housing together. They will not stand the mechanical stress of folding 90 degrees twice (to open and close again).

The fan itself can be relatively easily removed by removing the aluminium tape which connects a steel chassis holding the fan with the copper heatsink exhaust area.
The difference between the T60 series fan and T61 series fan is the manufacturer difference. Toshiba vs. Furukawa. This difference also means that the fan spindle itself is smaller (lower diameter) on the T61 series fan than what it is on the T60 series, so a T61 series fan won't really fit.
What you can do is to transplant the steel plate holding the fan from the T61 to the T60 and with some few modifications, it fits. You'll need new aluminium tape or kapton tape to fix it to the heatsink.
The fin design of the Furukawa fan and Toshiba fan is COMPLETELY the same. There is no difference.
I made a T60p heatsink with a T61p fan in this way, but it produced the same amount of noise. I replaced it with a new T60p heatsink though, since this job was quite messy, and another modification i made to the heatsink didn't work out to well.
If you want either of the fans - and not the heatsinks - (for a symbolic low fee+shipping (cheap)) just drop me a PM

I have taken other model fans apart.
Probably if you lift the label with the P/N & FRU, you may be able to drop some oil or graphite powder concoction on the spindle.
