T60 heating up enough to cause a burn

The bottom of my T60 has started heating up and if I were to touch it long enough, I would get burned. I do hear the fan running, for the amount of heat, there are still times that it shuts off. Any ideas on how to make it run cooler?

Is this to be expected? It is now 3+ years old.

Thanks,
Anoop

You may wish to clean it out to ensure there's no clogged/blocked vents. A new coating of thermal paste probably won't hurt either.

The vents look pretty clean already.

Can you give me any pointers to thermal paste? First time I'm hearing about that.

The key point is not the vents, but the fan inside. You need to remove the keyboard (and keyboard bezel) to give the fan a through clean using a vacuum cleaner (use the lowest speed to avoid damaging the fan).

I'm sure there's tons of videos on YouTube. It's easier to see it than for me to explain it.
