T60 Hibernate problem

#1 Post by stephenmcc » Wed Aug 12, 2009 5:56 am

I have a T60 - 1951 model running XP SP3.

I have noticed that the bar of indicator lights running along the bottom of the screen have been disappearing.

First the mains power stopped, then caps & scroll lock, then hard drive protection, until now only one I see active is wireless.

In addition although in power settings i have PC to sleep when lid is closed, it often stays on solid & obviously battery runs out and the worst time possible.

Is this a faulty connection or possibly a software/firmware issue?

I think it's a hardware problem. My best bet would be the LCD cable which carries signals for all the LEDs. If they stopped working over time, it would indicate that the adjacent lines in the cable were failing one after another.

That said, it could also be the inverter board, to which the LEDs are soldered, or even the system board.

You could try moving your display to various positions and check if the LEDs start working again. That's the easiest test I can think of.
