T60 motherboard problems and possible compatibilities?

Hello,

I have a nice T60 notebook which started to fail. One day it just simply gave me beeps indicating LCD/motherboard/RAM. RAM is out of question as it works fine in other laptops and was working fine up to these events. So its either LCD or motherboard. Also I started to experience strange behavior: sometimes notebook does booted with no beeps and let me work normally. The more time passed, more failed boots came in until finally it was impossible to boot (beeping errors, blank screen). Before it completely failed there were successful boots, but T60 tend to freeze after a while. I conclude that this is motherboard fault. I disassembled everything, and saw strange stuff like oil (?) on ATI X1300 GPU, so I assume it is what is failing.
As these chips are soldered on motherboard, my only way is to replace whole board. Current FRU for the board is 41F9916.
I looked at the data in lenovo site, but it seems there's no such FRU in the lists for T60 :)
I would like to know what motherboards are compatible with my notebook so I could replace it?
My T60 was 2623-D6U. ATI X1300.
I really would like to maybe get newer GPU as I'm getting new motherboard.

Thank you in advance.

First, I am assuming you checked and there is no warranty remaining. Some/many 2623 model machines still have warranty. You cannot get a newer GPU without replacing the machine. Only T60 boards will work with your case and frame, and the GPU is part of the motherboard. There are 4 boards that will fit. Basically, any board designed for a 4:3 T60 wil fit. There are many part numbers, because the numbers changed. All 4 boards will work with your SXGA+ screen. The basic board has intel (integrated) graphics. I wouldn't suggest that one because the fan needs to be different. You have the X1300 board. It has 64MB of video memory and is the easiest to find. The X1400 chip has 128MB video memory and the V5200 FireGL board (used on p models) has 256MB. Unless you do serious graphics work, you won't notice the difference. Are you thinking of swaping yourself or taking it to someone? I have an x1300 board available. (also others) Send a PM if interested

Nope, no warranty anymore. I got it over two years ago.
I was going to get X1300 (the same) or better as a little improvement. I do some graphics, but its not that intense so this upgrade would be more for the "mind":) And yes, its for me.
Thank you for the answer.

Just fyi...many 2623 had -3- years warranty.

Mine did.

It just ran out in June.

And I WISH I had realized it was running out this soon, and gotten it extended.....because my 15" UXGA started to fail just 3 weeks later!
:(

Anyway, it'd be well worth it to check the serial# on the lenovo site warranty page...just to be sure.

Good luck with it 8)
