Recently, my T60p's internal screen started shutting off randomly while on. The external output still works correctly. If I put it into standby and back on again, the screen comes on again. Same with leaving it idle long enough for power settings to do with screen turn-off kick in, then return to the computer - the screen comes on again, only to shut off after some time later (single minutes).
As far as I can tell, when off, it looks completely off - no faint image, no backlight displaying black. It will not come on randomly like it shuts off, only in situations when a screen would turn on. My power settings are set to "do nothing" on lid close.
I'm guessing this is likely to be a lid close sensor issue? (Where is that on the T60?) The only other alternative I could think of is the panel itself or the inverter, but then it wouldn't behave as predictably, would it?

Re: T60p screen turns off
Thanks. I will look again tomorrow morning, but I could swear that the picture actually is not there, as opposed to just the backlight dying for one reason or another.
I have warranty service on the machine. The reason I am asking is because I have problems with the panel itself (pressure spots and scratches). As I understand it, a dead backlight would result in a swap of the whole screen, but if they're just going to replace a switch or a sensor, I would like to know to mention the panel separately.

Re: T60p screen turns off
hi, i'm having a similar issue as you.
here's my thread
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewforum.php?f=29
i do notice the pinkish hue sometimes on startup. but it goes back to normal in a few seconds.
i've ordered a replacement inverter already from thinkpad-parts.com and will be updating my thread on how it goes. however, after reading through Gomjabbar's thread, i am expecting to have to buy a replacement lid as well.

Re: T60p screen turns off
Upon closer examination, I do have the faint image when "off", and lowering the brightness does extend the time the screen stays on. I have not noticed any hues yet. Into the warranty it goes (as soon as my other computer is set up)...
