T61 32bit vista -> 64bit 7 upgrade route

Hello all,

I've searched everyone for the answer, and I'm not quite sure its clear.

I have a T61 with 32-bit vista home premium on it, installed by Lenovo. I've pre-ordered the windows 7 home premium upgrade. I also want to go from 32-bit to 64-bit.

I don't mind reformatting to do this, because I do know that is necessary to go to 64bit. It is also my understanding that all of the upgrade CDs contain both the 32 and 64 bit versions.

What I don't understand is will the upgrade CD I purchased give me the option to do this? Or would it be best to go buy a full version of vista home premium OEM from newegg with a free upgrade to windows 7?

Thanks!

-Michael

I found the following on a Google search -

"There is much confusion over the definition of "upgrade". Microsoft's definition would say, "Yes you can use the upgrade disk to perform a clean install from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit." Common usage would say, "No, you cannot perform an upgrade from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit, you must perform a clean install ." "Clean install" is the key word here. As you stated in your post, you must perform a "clean install"..........but you can do that (from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit) with an "upgrade" disk."
