It seems that PC2-5300 DDR2-667SODIMM non-ECC will not work in T61. What is the correct spec for the memory then? DDR3?

Hi,
DDR2-667 / PC2-5300 ought to work - since this is what it uses from stock (regardless if the T61 has a "Penryn" or "Merom" CPU).
What happens when you power it on?

My T61 work with 2 SODIMM now:

Stock: Hynix DDR2-667(5300) 1G (DS)
Extra: Kingston DDR2-667 (5300) 2G (DS)

What happen to your T61 now? any beep codes?

I have put in Kingston 2GB DDR2 533/667 MHZ PC-5300 SO-DIMM and it makes eight beeps gives a message and only recognizing 2gb of the old chip -- I went to the thinkpad upgrades site and it states that I should use DDS3 1066 PC3 8500 1066MHZ SODIMMs? Does it make any sense? thanks for your feedback - basically trying to get 4 gb instead of existing 3gb in my Thinkpad T61... any experience of this?

That doesn't make sense. You need DDR2 memory - PC5300 or faster (PC5400 or PC6400 are OK, but work at PC5300 speed)

That can't be correct info on the upgrades site.
The Kingston PC5300 works perfectly on this T61, but only added a gb for 2gb total: 1gb came with + added the Kingston 1gb. No hiccups at all.
