Burning cd/dvd results in 'skipping' audio/video when DMA on

Hi!
Strangest problem with my T60 with a long history. After I burn a CD, when I play it in my car, or in a stereo, or even on the Thinkpad itself, I get "skipping" audio. When I burn a DVD, same thing happens, this time I get garbled video. Tried different types of media, slower burn speeds, no luck.
When I was running WinXP, I fixed the problem by disabling DMA in the control panel, but of course this made burning take forever. I've also called Lenovo tech support and had them send me another DVD burner, but that didn't fix the problem. I thought the issue was XP, and figured when I got around to re-installing it'd correct itself.
Anyway, I recently upgraded to Win7 RTM and guess what, problem still there. So it's obviously something with the T60 itself. I know there's been a few threads talking about DMA, but usually all revolved around turning it ON, not OFF. Any ideas?
