Burning cd/dvd results in 'skipping' audio/video when DMA on

Hi!

Strangest problem with my T60 with a long history. After I burn a CD, when I play it in my car, or in a stereo, or even on the Thinkpad itself, I get "skipping" audio. When I burn a DVD, same thing happens, this time I get garbled video. Tried different types of media, slower burn speeds, no luck.

When I was running WinXP, I fixed the problem by disabling DMA in the control panel, but of course this made burning take forever. I've also called Lenovo tech support and had them send me another DVD burner, but that didn't fix the problem. I thought the issue was XP, and figured when I got around to re-installing it'd correct itself.

Anyway, I recently upgraded to Win7 RTM and guess what, problem still there. So it's obviously something with the T60 itself. I know there's been a few threads talking about DMA, but usually all revolved around turning it ON, not OFF. Any ideas?

Aloha!
Could you better describe "skipping audio"? Do you hear pops and snaps? Have you tried using a different burner (ext USB) to see if it could be the drive itself? I can burn without problems on native combo and/or ext. usb. drives.

BTW, a fantastic companion drive to these TPads is the LG GSA-50L. Burns it all - even DVD-RAM. :D

Pops and snaps, and just silent bits every few seconds. Very annoying. On a movie DVD, I get different colored video artifacts on the screen, garbled sound, etc.

Lenovo sent me another burner, so not sure that's it. I haven't tried an external USB burner because I just don't have one.

For the record btw, we're taking about the HL-DVD-ST DVDRAM GSA-4083N. The controller is the Intel 82801 GBM/GHM (ICH-7 M Family) Serial ATA storage controller.

Aloha!
Since you've stated another drive (replacement) and using different OS didn't solve the problem, could you let me know what app/program you are using to burn CD/DVD?
