I ordered a refurbished Toshiba MK2552GSX 250GB for my new ebay T60.
I cannot acces the drive. It is frozen. This apparently refers to a security feature of the T60. It is designed to prevent changing the hard drive password as I understand things. Hdd tests fine installed in an R60 though. There is very little on the web under "hard drive frozen". Ditto this board. Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
John

Re: "frozen" hard drive
Where do you see "frozen"? That term normally applies to hot-swapping, not passwords. I would guess you could set/change/remove passwords normally or read and write.

I quote the below link as it is clearer than I can be.

Hi,
it seems your BIOS is locked security feature to protect from changing of password.
You need to connect your hard disk to PC with BIOS without this feature.
The security frozen setting allows the user to place the drive in a state where no security
commands can be sent to the hard drive(s) until drive power is cycled.
In security frozen state are all security commands will be aborted.

Re: "frozen" hard drive
Okay- Frozen is a red herring. There is another issue. Frozen is the normal security state. It doesn't refer to the operation of the drive as I had thought.
It may be some compatibility issue. Somehow the drive is compatible with the R60 and not the T60. I'll check the postings to see if this makes sense. The T60 boots the R60 hard drive which is IBM/Hitachi Travelstar.
