hairline crack in palmrest; is it serviceable?

Greetings fellow Thinkpadders!

This afternoon, I finally mustered enough courage to gut my T61 to clean the processor area with an air duster. However, as I was to open the laptop (after having removed the 4 screws underneath), I noticed a hairline crack in the palmrest, right side, near the button one should push to unlock the palmrest.

I was trying my best to get a picture of the said crack with my camera phone so I can let everyone see the said hairline crack, but the picture is too grainy and blurred.

Though I succeeded in cleaning the processor area (whew! it was really fun seeing the dirt come out of the processor fan!), I can't help but feel OC'd over the hairline crack. It's the first time I've tinkered with my T61. Do you think the service depot guys will replace the said palmrest? Is it covered by Lenovo's warranty on T61s?

By the way, I'm visiting the service depot next week, since the 30-day "hold period" for warranty servicing has already passed by that time, a topic that I also posted in the T61 forums. What am I going to say to the service depot guys so that they'll consider my service request? And since I am going to service my defective LCD at the same time, will they allow 2 service requests in one sitting?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot!

They will replace it, but only if you pay

My experience with palmrests and keyboards says that they will probably replace them even if you don't pay. Unless you go out of your way to claim that it's user-inflicted damage and demand that they don't fix it.

I've had broken keys on keyboards, and one palmrest where the corner broke off. Always replaced, no questions asked...

I see. :D

WEll, I hope that the service center guys will be kind enough to hear my plea. Based from my prior experiences with them, they make it a point that they will not fix your laptop unless the damage is really that significant.

I'll update you guys after I visit the service depot in two weeks' time.

Thanks a lot for your replies! :D
