Spilled water on T60. Does it have a fuse?

#1 Post by Hushpuppy » Sat Sep 19, 2009 9:52 am

Hi,
Someone very near to me who shall go nameless (hi, honey!) spilled water on her T60 (1024x768 screen Type 2007-CTO). It was on when it happened, but not immediately thereafter :help: . Now from my high school electronics classes I learned that if nothing happens with an appliance, it's usually power related. Well we have two power sources (battery and power brick) and neither one works. So I'm thinking about a fuse. Does this have a power supply fuse?

At the time of the accident it was running on battery, so I closed the machine right away and pulled it. Then I let it sit overnight. Put the battery back in, plugged in external power brick. No power or charging LEDs came on at all. I hit the power button and of course, nothing. Pulled everything, gave it another 24 hours. Still nothing.

Thanks for any tips. I just want to be sure it's a dead motherboard before we go looking for a replacement machine.

There are at least a dozen fuses, soldered on the motherboard. You can try to completely disassemble and clean with denatured alcohol, then dry it. I use a 200 degree oven for drying. It usually doesn't help. It has some value for parts

Don't forget to take out your HDD and dry it!
