I searched the site but couldn't really find anything. Is it possible to purchase warranty after the original has expired?

I know there's a link for it somewhere here, but I can't find it of course. Perhaps someone can chime in here. Which ThinkPad do you have? If it's too old I don't think they'll do it. As I recall it's kind of expensive like $170 for one year. You might be better off looking into a rider on your homeowners/renters insurance. They'll cover things like accidents and theft, which a warranty from Lenovo will not. Plus you can start/stop the coverage as you please.

Well I've got a T60 and a T60p. The T60 has got about 10 months left on warranty. T60p expired a couple months ago. Just trying to decide which one to keep. $170 is pretty steep for 1yr.

The only thing to fix on your machine that's significantly more expensive to fix the the warranty upgrade would be the board if you can do the work yourself. I'd say if you've made it this far without any trouble with your planar, I'd say the chances something will happen are fairly slim, though not zero. Unless you need the GPU on the P or it's a FlexView, the T60 under warranty might be better to keep.

You can apply for a post warranty upgrade for expired thinkpads. I was investigating this myself and it costs around £80 (if I remember correctly...maybe a few quid more). It's for one year but there are places where you can find it cheaper. It would be interesting to hear your experience if you decide to go that route.

I have done so on my T60p ... it was $249 for 2 year non-depot service ...

The way I justified the extra 2 years was ... My Thinkpad T60p > current netbook horse power wise ... as such ... the upgraded warranty was worth it ... couple that with windows 7 ... or redhat linux ... I think she will be a good little box for a while ....

Now I have upgraded it several times during it's life 500GB 7200 RPM seagate 7200.4 and 320GB 7200 WD Disks/ 4GB so it has quite a bit of horse power .... and storage ...

and 2 weeks after I upgraded it ... I had to replace the system board and fan (for the 2nd time during it's life) ... and it needs to go back to fix the IPS ... so at this point it has paid for itself ....
