t61p: How to check installed 4GB works?

Hello:

Have a t61p, bought in Jan 2007, no BIOS updates. Win-XP--32bit, SP3.
Added two 2GB Kingston chips a year apart---same model #, model specific RAM

How do I check that the two chips work together? I checked that each module by itself is recognized. With the two installed, even POST shows only 3GB.

With 32-bit Windows XP, don't expect to see more than 3.25 to 3.5 GB of useable memory, even if you have 4 GB of RAM.
If you run a 64bit OS your T61 can use all 4GB of RAM. So to answer your question directly, boot up a live version of a Linux 64bit Distro as a test. Then run a few commands to see what is being used.

Harry: Good idea. Let me check if I have a 64-bit Linux CD. I know that the usable memory is about 3GB and that is not an issue.

Is there another way of checking?

Just to see if it is working (as in functional), you can run memtest86.
